‘Fraidy Cat and other Animal Updates

Our house is entirely wood floors or 1950’s linoleum (it’s awful), so I can only assume this is the explanation for why Franklin is petrified of the bathmat.  Well, just one bathmat.  (We have two because Mabel seems to think that they are interchangeable with piddle pads).

Bathmat #1 – no issue.  It’s one of those nubbley ones that’s not very squishy.

Bathmat #2 – sheer terror.  This is just your standard plushy bathmat.  Nothing out of the ordinary – one solid color, rectangle (exactly the same size as the other).

He will NOT step on it.  He comes to hang out in the bathroom for a morning head scribble and when mat 2 is down he walks in via jumping up on the bathtub and going around the mat.  That bathroom is too narrow to walk around the mat… it basically forms wall-to-wall carpeting in there.  Anyway…  So this morning, being the mean mom I am, I decided to enforce some tough-love.  I trapped him on the side of the mat furthest from the door.  I blocked the bathtub and I put his little white paws on the edge of the mat.

I could see the panic on his face.  Then came the kitty butt wiggle and he shot himself over the bathmat, over the rest of the bathroom and safely out of the room all together.  We he promptly looked back and glared at me.  And the bath mat.

Miss Mabel is doing very well.  She’s on her second to last cast most likely and all is healing well.  Her latest cast change was different than the others.  I think it might be slightly longer than the previous casts and this is just enough that she just doesn’t know what to do with that leg.

She’s now walking on all fours about half of the time, but with the longer cast, that means the un-casted leg is now super short so she’s waddling around like a woman wearing stilettos with one broken heel!  Poor thing.

The benefit to all of this, is that we know where she is at all times because the casted leg ‘clunks’ with every step.

Alex has started her spring hunting.  It’s about the only hunting she does, but we are very appreciative, because she can track down a gopher from a mile away.  Pretty good for a pup who just doesn’t like to move much.  And being the great dog she is, she does not bring these treasures to us as presents.  Thank you, Puff.  (Puff – one of her many nicknames)

I don’t really have a Chloe update.  She’s fairly normal and doesn’t have too many weird happenings.  So I’ll just show you this.

Hands down – BEST photo I’ve even taken of her.

  1. OMG I LOVE THAT PICTURE!! I am so glad to hear about Mabel! I cannot wait for update pictures. Happy hunting to Alex.

  2. You are so mean! Poor little kitty and the evil bath mat… Good to hear Mabel is doing well. I am still amazed at her ability to walk on her front legs. The line about her trying to walk with a broken stiletto – FUNNY!

Sorry I can’t come up with any good yucky stories for your other request… How’s that going!?

  3. That photo is so cute!! 🙂
